The most popular article of the ones added in 2019, according to the total number of pageviews, was What is a Constellation Diagram?, and the second most popular was How Does Phase-Shift Keying Modulation Work?. However, in absolute numbers, the popularity of these articles doesn’t come close to the two most popular articles of 2019, namely How to Create a Simple Low-Pass Filter and How to Create Animated GIFs with Python. I added the latter in April 2018, and it was already quite popular last year. This year it made it to second place, so it really seems something that is useful to a lot of people.
A different way to look at popularity, in addition to looking at pageviews, is to try to find out in how far people actually try to use the presented information. In general, there’s not really a way for me to know that, but there are two things that might give an indication: comments that people leave below the articles, and mails that I receive either directly or via the contact form. If people take the time to do this, then I think it indicates that they’re really trying to work with the material.
Looking at comments and mails, the most engaging article of 2019 was clearly the the ASTRA Toolbox Tutorial: Reconstruction from Projection Images, Part 2. Of course, I assume that most people that comment there have read Part 1 first. I also got quite some direct messages about this tutorial. In the comments and mails, a question that keeps coming back is to show an example of a reconstruction of a real dataset instead of a simulated one.
Therefore, for the beginning of 2020, I plan to write some articles that actually show how to do a reconstruction starting from raw X-ray images (I have a really nice dataset of an apple lying around for that). Apart from these, there are still a few modem articles in the pipeline. And after that, it’ll be the inspiration of the moment again…
I wish you the very best for 2020! (For people that always see a factorial if a number is followed by an exclamation mark, this is about 3.86×105801 ☺.)
